About The Speaker
Afia Salam is a journalist who has experience of almost four decades in the field of print, electronic and web journalism. She has traversed diverse and pioneering fields like cricket, aviation, tourism, and now concentrates on subjects like environment, water, climate change, sustainable development, gender and media ethics. She is a member of the IUCN Commissions on Education and Communications, and Environment, Economic and Social Policy. She is also the current President of Baanhn Beli, a development organization that has been working across Sindh, particularly Tharparkar for the past 35 years, and a trustee and current Acting Chair of Indus Earth Trust, another development Organization that is working in the fields of Water, Indigenous eco friendly housing, Livelihoods and rural solarization of off grid villages in Sindh. She is associated as a Trustee with the Helpline Trust, a consumer right's body, and Saneeya Hussain Trust, that assists in the higher education of girls. Professionally, she is a freelance journalist and a communications consultant, plus a communicator as a panelist, moderator on many forums on issues of Climate Change and sustainable development.
